Student Placement Opportunities

St. Leonard’s is proud to provide placement student experience and support the development of local college and university students through hands on experience.

Is St. Leonard’s the right placement for you?

St. Leonard’s has welcomed students from Loyalist, St. Lawrence, Trent, Fleming, and Queen’s in the past. 
Students living locally from any College or University are invited to apply.

Students best suited for working in youth justice and prevention programming come from Community and Justice Services, Behavioural Science, Social Service Worker, Child & Youth Care, Addiction and Mental Health Worker, and Police Foundations.
Please note, at times, the agency welcomes students from other bodies of study, (e.g. Media Studies, Human Resources Management), provided the right fit. 

  • CPIC/VSS
  • Proof of up-to-date immunization and vaccination records
  • Driver’s license with reliable vehicle

Good communication and written skills, motivated/driven, takes initiative, professional, high work ethic, flexible, high autonomy, interest in working with youth, open minded and willing to learn, and experience/ability to engage with youth and/or facilitate programming.

Selected students will complete an orientation, onboarding and training at the beginning of their placement. 

Depending on the placement position within St. Leonard’s, students can expect firsthand or shadowing experience with:

  • implementing youth programming
  • life skills program delivery
  • case management
  • writing reports
  • program design
  • motivational interviewing strategies in practice
  • service navigation and resources
  • networking opportunities
  • community collaboration
  • program facilitation
  • integration into community services and programs
  • implementing client-centred and strength-based approaches
  • employment training opportunities (in-house and external)
  • client case management
  • development workshops
  • creation of agency promotion materials
  • scheduling
  • stat collection
  • working collaboratively and independently
